A new method for infrared image enhancement using improved genetic algorithm is proposed. First, the relation between gray levels for the input and output images is coded, and then the most effective relation of the effect is searched for by a certain evaluation standard for the image quality. It is a new field for infrared image enhancement using genetic algorithm, so it is difficult to implement it. The target of this paper is to establish the infrared image enhancement modal based on genetic algorithms which can automatically adjust its parameters according to the character of the image. The experimental result is given in detail. They are summarized as following:Firstly, the theory of genetic algorithm and classic image enhancement methods is studied. Secondly, the infrared image enhancement modal is designed. A great deal of experiments and contrastive analysis based on infrared image is performed. Thirdly, some improvements are gained aiming at classics genetic algorithms. The improved adaptive genetic algorithm is designed. Finally, the modal based on multithread is given using the parallel genetic algorithms. It is implemented using the object oriented software design technology, so it is easy to design the algorithm of multi-thread and to harden the algorithm.
