Embedded system is an application specific computer system that focuses on the application and it is based on the computer technology, its hardware and software is cuttable. The development of embedded systems is very fast during the last ten years. Furthermore, as the hard core of embedded system, embedded operating system is used in the embedded systems more and more, especially in handheld devices and electronic devices. But the design techniques of embedded system and embedded software is still germinant, and there are no integrated, standard and universal methods about it.The conventional single-thread design method is still mostly used in present embedded systems design. However, that kind of design method makes develop, debug and maintenance longer and difficult, which also results low systematism. And the linear program will breakdown whenever there is something wrong because of badly disturbance. With the complexity of embedded system software improving, the conventional design methodology will not meet our demands, it is hard to be transplanted from one platform to another. It is no longer a standard system develop method. Using the tool of real time operating system to develop small real-time system, the disturbance will only destroy one of the processes and other processes will restore it. So using RTOS can decline the design difficulty of system, improve the efficiency and dependability of the system.Based on the developing of IMS narcotics detector, this article analyzes the kernel of real time operating system, introduces how to usingreal time multi-task operating system as object-develop environment, puts forward the analyzing and designing methodologies used in IMS narcotics detector embedded software designing which is based on RTOS, conceives a data-flow structure model for embedded software design, and provides an effective resolvent for middle or little real time system. It also deals with the arithmetic for peak-location (mobile-time) finding and temperature control, and at last summarizes the points for attention when applying RTOS.
