Now radar faces to many threats including lower altitude attack and integrated electronic jam, as well as stealth target and anti-radiation missile. Passive detecting and tracing is a promising way to overcome these problems. Infrared targets detection is a critical issue in the passive infrared detection system, while infrared weak and small targets detection is one of its core.The paper mainly researches the methods of the infrared small and dim targets detection. Firstly, the state of arts of infrared weak and small targets detection is reviewed in domestic and abroad, and the mechanism of infrared imaging is analyzed. Secondly, a new method of infrared weak and small targets detection based on wavelet and adaptive threshold is proposed with an effective improvement detection of performance. Finally, the method of infrared weak and small targets detection based on wavelet and integration match is described, which makes use of the moving targets' characteristic and is effective in the infrared sequential images detection. Simulation results on actual data indicate that the proposed methods are effective and robust to detect infrared dim and small targets.
