Space-time code indicates a new idea of providing high transmission rate in wireless communication systems and has recently received considerable attention. This paper is mainly focused on the space-time coding technique. Firstly, we introduce the principle of space-time code and give the design criteria of it for quasi-static flat-fading channels. Secondly, we detail the encoding and decoding theories, features, perfor- mances and compare of two important types of space-time code——space-time trellis code(STTC) and space-time block code(STBC). Simultaneously, we present the examples and simulation results of them. Finally, we investigate the combination of space-time coding technique and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique.
