First, the basic concepts of PON and EPON are introduced in this thesis, as well as its research status quo in the world ,and then the network architecture of EPON is introduced , emphasis on key technology. In the second part, some problems encountered In the upstream TDM/TDMA transmission are resolved by providing a controlling scheme of switching in based on a dynamic distribution of bandwidth using the different grant distribution algorithm for services with the different delay requirements. Then the static and dynamic ranging technology is studied. In which the principle of "time sign ranging" for dynamic ranging and the ranging method are presented in detail, and the thought and scheme of dynamic ranging technology in function system are provided. A simple explanation for some problem waiting for solution is provided at last, and the future of EPON is prospected, too.
