Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) is one of the key technologies for increasing the capacity in optical fiber network systems. Based on its unique technical advantages, such as huge capacity, easiness of expanding, high compatibility with higher layer protocols and technologies etc, WDM technology is showing huge potentiality and brilliant prospects of optical networks. With the rapid development of Internet and the successive emergence of new IP based businesses, IP over WDM has been considered to be the basic infrastructure of the next generation Internet. Nowadays, IP over WDM has been the subject of intensive studies. Basis on the in-depth analyses of the current trend of IP over WDM technology and its tendency of future development, we systematically reviewed the present routing algorithms in the literature, analyzed in detail the significance of the study of Integrated Dynamic Routing with Quality of Service (QoS) Constraints in IP over WDM networks and proposed a novel QoS integrated dynamic routing algorithm. In this thesis, firstly, we discussed and distinguished the principles of IP routing and wavelength routing, and then analyzed the benefit of integrated dynamic routing of IP/WDM networks. Secondly, we deeply discussed the QoS and queuing problems in IP/WDM networks. On the basis of the above investigations, we devised a novel Integrated Dynamic Routing Algorithm with QoS Constraints. The performance of this new algorithm was tested and compared for the problems withdifferent parameters under the consideration of layer 3 processing delay. The simulation results indicated that the proposed new algorithm had utilized the network resources more efficiently, and it could effectively reduce both the total and the QoS traffic's blocking probability and provide QoS guarantee. The novelty of this research is that we included the QoS constraints in integrated dynamic routing, and realized the QoS guarantee. Finally, we analyzed and discussed some issues in the future study of this problem.
