Image is the most important information source for human to realize the world because it has very abundant information, but it has great amount of data. With the development of computer networks technology and the multimedia technology, all of these technology call for compressing the great amount of image data in order to adapt to the practical application. The redundancy of statistic, structure and vision in image provides the possibility to image compression. Image Code has become the specialty in the field of modern signal process. Image Code is a developing field on image compression and a lot of methods on that has now generated, such as predict code, transform code, statistic code, subband code, fractal code, model code, vector quantization code, neural networks code, wavelet transform code, etc.In this paper, we set focus on the wavelet transform code. We firstly summarize the basic theory on image code, introduce some familiar compression techniques and some international compression standards on image and video frequency; And then, we introduce the basic theory on wavelet transform code and the JPEG2000 standard and its pivotal technique; At last, we mainly study the Embedded Zerotrees Wavelet(EZW) code, we propose a compression technique based on modification of original EZW coding, the main objective of this improved algorithm is to enhance compression ratio of an image with minimal loss during reconstruction, and we verify the improved algorithm's performance by doing experiments.
