This task' s primary intention is to establish a digital library management system. The system combines the whole Tianjin' s colleges' libraries to provide all legal readers a more large resource of books and reduce waste of money in purchasing books. This is a kind of Application research. This task has got results as follow. The first is the authentication subsystem. This subsystem insures the system against destroys from illegal users. The subsystem will be entered when users start to use the library management system. The digital library management system can only be used by the users who can accomplish this subsystem succeeded. This subsystem adopt the mode of "username/password". Considering the environment of network, information transmitted through a channel, which can encrypt the information. So the information can be kept from being damaged, attacked, stolen, or injured, and the library management system can be protected. The second is the digital medium storage and management subsystem. This subsystem provides users with functions such as, querying from bibliographies, reading the article, borrowing books, returning books, and so on. This subsystem adopts the Oracle database, which can integrally manages data. The Oracle database has features as follows: store a mass of data, define and operate the data, security control, integrity control, system resume, and so on. Using JDBC this subsystem connects the application programmed by Java to Oracle database, and improves the system' s performance by making use of the storage functions. This library management system has some features as follow:1. It' s a union of many colleges' libraries.2. Insures the system against destroys from illegal users by using authentication subsystem.3. Readers can borrow books, return books by themselves.4. Readers can read the article on client computer.5. Making use of the storage functions the system' s performances can be improved.
