With the aid of the modeling, kinematics analysis and the program development of control data to drive the virtual prototype, the technology of virtual prototype simulation is studied. The following work has been completed.The research and development of electro-mechanical products involves high coordination and cooperation between different engineering fields. To fulfill the requirements, an approach for virtual prototype simulation based on concurrent design is introduced, which is helpful to overcome the drawback that the information can't be well exchanged between engineers from different fields.During the product conceptual design, the parameterized virtual prototype can be built based upon the information of the geometric dimension and mass property. This modeling way is useful to simplify the model structure and speed up the simulation process.Two simulation ways are presented to drive the prototype with data from controlling system. One is to connect ADAMS mechanical models to block diagrams developed with Matlab/Simulink. Therefore, the mechanical designers and the controls designers can share the same mechanical model and cooperate in harmony. Another way is to drive the model with controlling data on the basis of user subroutines library. We successfully apply the approach studied in this paper to the virtual prototype simulation of a two-degree-of-freedom parallel manipulator.
