Firmware Research And Development For WLAN Based On Protocol IEEE 802.11

The newest IEEE Std 802.11 documents are publicized by IEEE in Oct.1999.The characteristics of Medium Access Control (MAC) layer and Physical layer for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) are specified. The study of communication protocol is not easy in the course of the study and development about communication technology. It is very significant to study the IEEE 802.11 protocol which will make us possess the wireless network products ourselves, and, we will master the basic ways and general course of the communication protocol study.This paper is based on protocol engineering for guideline. First, different federal description technologies (FDT) in each phase of protocol engineering are introduced, especially the protocol description language SDL. Afterwards an overall design of realization of IEEE 802.11 protocol WLAN firmware is discussed, in which HW/SW partition, how to realize the software part of firmware and produce test suite are studied.
