In traditional computer vision, 3D object is projected into 2D image. Because depth information is lost, 3D object reconstructed is not unique. Depth image brings forth great influence on information processing technique in the field of computer vision and cause vision concept to enter the 3D non-contact measuring domain.In this paper, a 3D measuring system based on color-encoded is presented. A white point source passes through illuminating system, projecting system and projected evenly upon the filter whose wavelength is varied linearly. The colorful light through the filter is projected on a white object. Modulated by the shape of the object, the deformed color pattern which has 3D depth information is captured by a pick-up camera. Through image acquisition card, the image is input into the computer. Extracting the value of r, g, b from each pixel, we will find the corresponding wavelength and eventually get the projecting angle by decoding. According to the mathematical model between depth and projecting angle, depth image will be attained. The system is analyzed in theory and simulated by computer in the paper. The main jobs are as follows:1. On the basis of the discussion on 3D depth mapping technique using encoded structural light, we adopt a color-encoded technique, that is to say, projecting angle is encoded by light plane's color or wavelength. In the light of structural parameters, we established the mathematical model between the projecting angle and the 3D coordinate value of the point on the surface of the object.2. According to main design indexes, system parameters are designed. At the same time, The limited value of each errors source is given.3. The systems of illuminating and projecting are designed and assembled.4. The computer simulations for typical 3D sharp such as inclined planes and 3D deformed planes are practiced to demonstrate the feasibility of this method.The color-encoded method applied in the 3D system can gather full-frame 3Ddepth data at pick-up camera's frame rate. It is of high speed, efficiency and resolution. Also it will give new direction and theory reference for real-time 3D non-contact measurement based on vision and high-speed 3D vision. And above all, it plays an important role in the development of information technology on machine vision and its application in engineer.
