Generic Cabling System (GCS) is transmission passage of all kinds of information in intelligent architecture. With the increase and development of intelligent architecture, from intelligent building to intelligent digital district, the scale of GCS is huger and huger, so the maintenance and management of these pipes and physical components is more and more important. In order to adapt to the needs of the management of GCS, to effectively manage graphics and data in GCS, making the best of advanced information technology and developing Generic Cabling Management System software is one of available ways to raise the level of management and maintenance. The paper combines with the characteristic of GCS management, analyzes and compares some kinds of Generic Cabling Management System software, and finds many disadvantages that exist in these systems, such as the separation of graphic information and its correlative property information, the absence of graphic editing and operating functions, and the deficiency of reusability and expansibility in software development. To solve these problems, it is put forward that components technology and using the essential idea of Geography Information System (GIS): combing the spatial geography graphic data with their property data are used in the development of Generic Cabling Management System (GCS) software, to develop one small scale applied GIS. The paper studies the characteristic and development methods of Components GIS, and one component that adapts to GCS management is developed from the bottom. Generally, the major researches and conclusions in this paper are listed as follows:â‘ Components technology and components-based development are studied. Components technology is the newest development of Oriented-Object technology. Components have the characteristics of opening, flexibility, reusability, expansibility, and so on. Applying Component technology to GCS management suits various management contents and needs of GCS and builds up reusability and expansibility of this system.â‘¡ GIS technology and Components GIS technology are studied. GIS's essential idea lies in combining the spatial geography graphic data with their expressed information, so realize to update graphic data and property information of spatial entities synchronously, to query bidirectionally, and to edit and operate graphic data.Components GIS technology comes out of applying Components technology to GIS, raising the flexibility and expansibility of GIS system.â‘¢ GIS components of Generic Cabling Management System is designed and implemented. Based on the characteristic of data in GCS, spatial data model and organization forms are designed. In order to raising query speed, special storage structure and data structure are built.â‘£ Generic Cabling Management System software is designed and implemented. Using the above study contents, the requirement analysis of Generic Cabling Management System is carried out, and design principles are put forward. Finally, the experimental model of Generic Cabling Management System software is built.
