In this paper, the practical background and the state of wavelet theory is reviewed. Definition, time-frequency locations and ability to process singularity signal of wavelet transform are analysised and researched.The application to the signal processing are discussed,and its prospects are looked into.This paper introduce the principles and features of the wavelet transform applied to the vibration signal detection. The analysis of the related theory proved that the detection requirements of signal can be fulfilled by the application of wavelet theory as a candidate of Fourier transform.In this paper, the analysis of related theory proved that the fault vibration signal of rotating machinery is a complex signal which has some components with single frequency. Each of the componential signals is decided by the rotating frequency. If we know the rotating frequency, we will know each of the componential signals. In the chapter 5, The analysis of wavelet theory proved that the range of frequency of wavelet decomposition is decided by the sampling frequency in some situation. Based on these theories , a new research method is offered for signal analysis and detection.As an example,the diagnosis of a compressor system which has a rotating frequency of 60HZ is carried out, and its result shows that the method presented here is feasible and effective for practical use.
