Currently, web server cluster system has been adopted as a main solution by many web service providers, because it has much more technical advantages than single web server.In traditional web cluster systems, load balancer is a bottleneck of the system performance. It does not support complicated algorithms and a large number of web server nodes, hence scalability cannot be achieved. In such a structure, web servers provide services individually and they cannot communicate with each other. Because the information of web servers is not shared efficiently among them, the resource utilization of the entire system is relatively low and the system performance needs improving.Network storage-based web cluster provides solutions to overcome the above drawbacks of traditional cluster systems. In the former model, web servers communicate with each other through local area network. The data of files come from a NFS server and web servers act as caching nodes for them. In this architecture, web servers provide services as a whole system instead of separate parts. In addition, a CDS server determines the method of file caching based on the states of web servers and file accessing with the objective of using the system resourcemore efficiently.The key idea of the network storage-based web cluster is that it integrates all computing resources and memory resources in the system and then provides services as a whole serving system. Its unique architecture greatly improves the scalability and overall performance of the system. Therefore, the network storage-based web cluster is a promising web cluster mode.
