There lies a behavior between rigid regularity and randomness based on pure chance. It has called a chaotic system, or chaos for short. In recent year, with the deeper research of chaos theory, the application of chaos theory has become one of important issues and forefront project. In this dissertation, research works focus on chaos theory and its application in information security and optimization, the primary endeavor and contribution of this dissertation are as follows:First, combine with the research actuality and development tide of chaos theory, makes a systematic exposition for the development of the chaos theory, the definition and characteristic of chaos. Through the analysis and simulation research of typical chaotic systems and chaos analysis technology, we complete the computation of Lyapunov exponent and fractal dimension of typical chaotic systems. We also summarize the research of chaos control and chaos synchronization, and its potential applications.On the basis of these results, we discuss the developed status of chaotic cryptography, and try to analysis the digital media by the study of digital media security and the progress of digital image encryption technology. By the analysis of the characteristic of pseudo-random chaotic sequence, this thesis put forward two digital image encryption algorithms based on chaotic sequence. A brief introduction of application chaos theory in other information security areas was gives at the end of this section.In chapter four, we review the development of intelligent optimization technology. Chaotic systems have some good properties such as ergodicity, sensitivity to initial conditions, whose ergodicity can be used as a kind of mechanism for optimization to effectively avoid the search being trapped in local optimum, so that chaos has been a novel and promising tool for global optimization. Based on simulation and compared with the chaotic search optimization algorithms, a new chaotic linear optimization algorithm was produced. We also give a brief introduction of other areas of AI, such as neural networks, and genetic algorithms be employed together with chaotic systems.
