On the base of the analysis on astronomical optical fibers with characteristics, development and application, the paper studies the fiber applied on the program the largest sky area multi-object fiber spectroscopic telescope (LAMOST) which is hold in National Astronomical Observatory.The fiber connects the telescope focal plane to the spectrograph in the program. Aiming at the application of the telescope, the main performance of the fiber are the spectral-transmission efficiency and the focal-ratio degradation. The experiments are designed for testing the above-mentioned characteristics strictly. The experimental data are obtained which can conduct the practical application. Besides these, the extrinsic effects on the two characteristics are investigated, which are the pressure and bending at various radii. The theoretical analysis is given to explain the experimental phenomenon. At last, the paper presents the qualitative analysis on the intensity of output light from the fiber which is launched at different angle of incident light.
