Design And Study Of Streaming-based Distance Learning System

With the rapid development of information transfer technology, the content, instruments and methods in the existing education face huge challenges. The computer multimedia technology and network technology are developing at very fast speed, they have made the information resource be shared largely, changed the old communication model thoroughly, and provided advantaged condition for reformation and development of the traditional education. Network becomes more and more favorable with it' s rich information resource, friendly interactive performance and excellent opening. The distance education on network will be the trend of education.Now, the transfer speed of data on Internet is quite slow. There are many troubles to transfer the huge multimedia files on the net. We can do it with streaming media technology, it is an advanced technology, and it makes the multimedia distance learning on Internet become true. In this paper, we conceived a distance learning system with which we can realize real time teaching, order programming and online learning, and so on. The system has following characteristics:1. With streaming media technology, we can watch the program while it being downloaded, and no need to wait for whole downloading;2. The students can send control requests while on-demand unicasting. It makes the students be leading role in study;3. It can realize real time teaching by broadcasting;4. It supports open study and can realize online leaning. This promotes students study on their own initiative.These characteristics are very important to realize the distance learning.
