Digital television originated from the research on high definition television(HDTV). Since the early 1990's, it has experienced rapid development due to the advance in microelectronic technology, VLSI technology, digital signal processing technology and computer technology. DVB standards play the most influential role in the international digital television development.As an ideal transmission platform, SDH network is used to carry video signals besides audio and data services. In our country, the SDH transmission scheme has been widely implemented in the broadcast and television network.This paper focuses on the network adaptation which is the key to the transmission of DVB over SDH network. By using of relevant DVB standards, the functional blocks of the network adapter are described in details. Then several technologies employed in the adaptation are examined respectively, including forward error correction, scrambling, adaptive clock method and bit-leakage.The network adapter is designed by FPGA technology and All the design work is carried out with the aid of Xilinx Foundation series 3.1i development tool. I have completed part of the network adapter, i.e. the design of block interleaver and RS encoder. The performance of the interleaver and RS encoder is approved by the functional simulation.
