Microwave imaging techniques have important applications in many fields. Ground objects can be imaged in any kinds of weather or at any time by using microwaves. It has been an active area to explore new microwave imaging ideas, systems or techniques. In order to meet the military demand for microwave imaging systems that have high spatial resolution and high security, or the civil demand for acquiring information about ground objects, a new imaging method is proposed in this paper. In this method, the signal transmitter and receiver are located in two places. During imaging, only a monochromatic microwave is required to illuminate the ground objects. In this paper, a detailed description of the new imaging method is presented, and some characteristics of the method are studied. Numerical simulation results show that this method can produce a microwave image of the ground objects with high spatial resolution. When locating the position of the signal collector, a high location precision in the vertical direction is required in this method. It is possible to acquire the height information of three-dimensional ground objects because of the imaging sensitivity of this method to the height difference of ground objects.Such characteristics of the imaging method showed in the research in this paper make it possible to become a new air observation means.
