The Research On The Application Of Historical Document Network

With the rapid development of internet, all the essential historical documents can be located on websites. However, the development and application of Internet in historical academy is relatively sluggish compared with that in the field of computer, classical Chinese and books information. The network application in historical document belongs to the field of the classification of historical document and academic research, thus to initiate the research of the application of historical document network has become an imminent and urgent job. This essay is trying to conduct some preliminary research in this field.Chapter One: A brief introduction of the development of Chinese historical document resources;Chapter Two: The author starts from the five characteristics of online historical resources. Then the author probes into problems concerning project scale, the technical characteristics (mainly word processing and full-text retrieval) by analyzing systems chosen from big historical document network already-built or in the process of building, such as Electronic Books of Taiwan's Academia Sinica, the electronicedition of Imperial Collection of Four by Beijing Unihan Company and the Chinese Ancient Texts by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The author comments on the technology and methods of the application of historical document network, mainly the coding, input of words and full-text retrieval. And the author concludes that the best way to do this is to adopt the international standard called Unicode and OCR.Chapter Three: The author analyzed and summarized the academic function, effects and also the existing problems of the application of historical document network. In the end, some suggestions are advanced concerning the construction of historical document network so as to promote its functions. It's hoped that the advantages of the internet will better serve the academic research of historical document.
