Implementation Of Internet Appliance Based On Embedded Linux

In recent years, Internet Radio Stations have grown quickly, which play audio programs via Internet. Their programs are received with neither zone limitations nor frequency limitations. People can listen to these programs with PC, which has special software. In the other hand, some people want to have one information product to listen to Internet Radio Stations only. Before the Research and Development of I-Radio (Internet Radio) machine, there is no such a product. So research of I-Radio machine will meet the needs of the consumers.This paper introduces the implementation of I-Radio machine based on Embedded Linux according to my work in I-Radio machine project. As an Internet Appliance, I-Radio machine is not only a single product, but also can be integrated into the other products.This paper describes the cause of I-Radio machine project, introduces the special advantages of Embedded Linux, analyzes the functions of I-Radio machine, and introduces the design of hardware and software. It mainly elaborates software design of I-Radio machine including GUI, data structure, audio decoding, Network configuration etc.This paper also introduces configuration of Linux kernel and design of Linux root file system, which are the bases of Embedded Linux.In the last part, this paper introduces modifications of device drivers. It also describes why and how to modify the device drivers. At last, it gives the results of modifications.This paper gives some results as follows:(1) A practical system design of "I-Radio Machine" is provided;(2) GUI of Linux is explored and realized by programming;(3) The continuity of audio decoding is solved;(4) The kernel and root file system of embedded Linux are built;(5) Device driver of serial port and audio card are modified, so hardware are best supported.
