Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is a kind of high resolution imaging radar, which has been developed since World War II. Through it,High-resolution radar image can be obtained under all weather, day and night and long distance conditions,so it is of high value in military and civil applications. In accordance with the Foundation Research Project of Jiangsu Province (The Natural Science Fund NO. BK2001047) "Research On Image Quantitative Evaluation of SAR",we research the statistical characters of SAR image,SAR image filters and SAR image evaluation etc.In the preface to this dissertation, the characters of SAR and the current international and domestic research progress are introduced briefly. The main contribution of this dissertation is also summarized here.In chapter 1 we particularly research the mechanism of speckle coming into being and the statistical characteristic of SAR image. In chapter 2 we introduce the algorithm of suppressing speckle in common use. Lee filters and pyramidal morphology filters are included. We bring forward a new kind of parallel pyramidal morphology filter for realizing in hardware. In chapter 3 we put forward a new set of parameter for evaluating the performance of image filters. Suppressing speckle and preserving edges are taken into account synthetically. In chapter 4 a new method to evaluate quality of images based on modified false SNR is researched. In chapter 5 we research the steps and advantages of mixed programming between MATLAB and VC++ by MATCOM. It is used in SAR image processing and evaluating software. In the end, conclusions are made and the possible future work is explained.
