The Research Of On-Line Handwriting Chinese Character Recognition Based On The Characteristic Group Of Strokes

It is always a difficulty problem for Chinese to make Chinese characters enter the computer. Many input methods can be used now, but popularization of character input has not been realized radically.Technique problems have hardly existed in the study of western letter recognition since 1950's.But Chinese character recognition just begins. This is because not only Chinese character recognition began in 1980's,but also Chinese characters change much and can be written freely, which is considered a difficulty field in pattern recognition.The thesis tries to bring a new thought for Chinese handwriting recognition-the method based upon the characteristic group of strokes. Rich information for recognition can be provided by a lot of connected strokes in Chinese handwriting. Chinese characters are devided into four grades in the thesis: characters, radicals, the characteristic group of strokes and stroke.In the stroke grade, the main object are simple straight stroke, at the same time, the concept of curve stroke is introduced. Straight stroke are defined 8 new direction regions, that are used as transitional regions, as while as by 8 common direction ones, the new direct regions can make stroke direction more exact. Unstraight are described as curve stroke and round stroke, which can improve precision of stroke discription.In the grade of characteristic group of strokes, a person's writing habit is stored in database by study and connected strokes in handwriting can be distinguished by the person's writing habit stored in database. In this way, the strokes that don't fit the writer can be rejected.In the radical grade, Chinese character are divided into relativity independed ones, And position between radicals can help to recognize character, at same time, stroke combinations can be restricted by the stroke grade because the relativity fixedness in one character stroke combinition ,and this fixedness can help to reject disturbed radicals.The method reqires a smaller database and less samples.
