IP telephony is a very new kind of technology in the field of Integrated Network Service and telecommunication. Q.931 is ISDN's connection control protocol and RTP/RTCP is most suitable for real-time multimedia application. Bluetooth is a new kind of wireless communication protocol, and is an open standard for wireless data and voice transport. The appearance of Bluetooth makes it possible for the wireless device that has ever been incompactible to complement seamless network combination and integration. In this paper, after generally discussing present development in IP telephony and the main kinds of IP gateway device architecture , we focus on Q.931 signal protocol and RTP/RTCP protocol, studying and discussing the detail of these protocols. Then , we do some research in mending these protocols, making them more suitable for the application in IP telephony. And we implement a real end-to-end IP telephone system. Based on this system, Using Bluetooth technology, we complement hardware interface and software interface. Finally, in order to improve the performance of the IP system, we discuss the possibility of implementing QoS adaptive encoding in VoIP system and present an practical algorithm.
