Comprehensive Analysis for the Factors Affecting Modulation Transfer Function of Charge Coupled DeviceThe charge-coupled device (CCD) is a very versatile image-forming device. CCDs have a number of advantages over other image-forming devices, and in recent years have been used in many fields. Modulation transfer function (MTF), as a reliable method for evaluating CCDs' image-forming quality objectively, needs researching urgently. However, it is difficult to evaluate CCDs' actual quality roundly and objectively by the present MTF model under ideal conditions. In this dissertation starting with CCD's mechanism, the author gives the primary factors which affect the modulation transfer function of CCD. These are: the phase matching between input signal and CCD pixel, pixel geometry, minority carrier diffusion, transfer efficiency less than unity and channel types, and basing on the work of the predecessor the author researches each factor and acquires the complete MTF model of CCD. Finally this model is compared with CCD's MTF under ideal conditions.
