CEBus(Consumer Electronics Bus) is an American standard proposed by EIA. The purpose of this standard is to connect all house hold appliances, realizing interoperability, and Home Plug & Play(HomePnP) ?The specification of CEBus is EIA 600, which covers physical layer through application layer. As the essence of CEBus, CAL and HomePnP will be detailed in this paper.Chapter one is an introduction to home automation.Chapter two describes physical layer. The communication media can be power line, infrared, radio frequency, twistedpair, etc, among which power line communication technique is discussed.Chapter three describes data link layers. Topics include: frame formats, services, CSMA/CR mechanism, frame priority, etc.Chapter four describes the Message Transfer layer, and application layer authentication is also described.Chapter five describes the grammar of CAL, which is the basis of interoperability.Chapter six introduces HomePnP. It' s based on CAL, and implements device interoperability.Chapter seven to nine is the implementation of the home automation system, including CAL interpreter, PC software, hardware structure, and interface to other devices. As home automation is a large system, our research work on CEBus will continue.
