Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is a kind of high resolution imaging radar, which has been developed since World War II. Using SAR we can obtain high-resolution radar images under all weather, day and night and long distance conditions, so it is of high value in military and civil applications. In accordance with the National High Technology Project 863 and the National Defense Preliminary Research Project, we research Chirp Scaling algorithm and Nonlinear Chirp Scaling algorithm using raw data recorded by an airborne SAR.In the introduction to this dissertation, a number of airborne SAR imaging algorithms are reviewed briefly. The main contribution of this dissertation is also summarized here.In chapter 2 we thoroughly research Chirp Scaling algorithm, including it' s merit and demerit, the course of formula derivation. Finally we use raw data recorded by an airborne SAR to perform image formation. The result shows Chirp Scaling algorithm is effective. In chapter 3 we particularly deduce the nonlinear Chirp Scaling algorithm, discuss the differences between Chirp Scaling algorithm and Nonlinear Chirp Scaling algorithm. Using raw data we validate the effectivity of the algorithm. In the end, conclusions are made and the possible future work is explained.
