Diffractive optics is the newly developing branch of optics, it has lots of merits that traditionally optics can not analogy with. The applications of Diffractive Optical Element (DOE) to imaging system are increasing progressively along with the developments of diffractive optics. The imaging theories of DOE are analysed in this paper, these theories mainly involved the dispersive theory and imaging spectral theory. At the same time, The specific applications of DOE in imaging optical spectrum are mainly investigated, relating to the applications that DOEs are used in Diffractive Optical Imaging Spectrometer(DOIS) of visible light and infrared wave bands and that DOEs are used in the Image Multi-Spectral Sensing(IMSS), the robot vision, the multi-channel camera and the projection display. The main works in this paper is that, by calculating Points Spread Function(PSF) and simulating the forming of images of monochromatic light and ideality geometrical optics on the computer, we have simulated successfully DOE imaging process. And post-processed imaging for the multi-spectral imaging of the DOE, so as to extract out required optical spectrum. All results of above have acquired positive prescription.
