The aim of this paper is to study a new meteor burst communication protocol which is based on type- II hybrid ARQ with adaptive variable-rate technology. In the subnet of meteor burst communication, the protocol is used for the intercommunication(unidirectional data transmission) between the main station and sub station.Firstly, we propose the new protocol. We test the validity and feasibility of this protocol by computer simulation. Secondly, we compare fix rate data transmission with adaptive variable-rate data transmission to study the benefit of adaptive variable-rate data transmission. Finally , we compare type- II hybrid ARQ , type- I hybrid ARQ with basic ARQ in the condition of adaptive variable-rate data transmission to evaluate the advantage of type- II hybrid ARQ.From simulation, we found that it is very important to change data transmission rate adaptively in the meteor burst communication. Using this method, we can get much more throughput than using fix rate transmission. And we also found that typeII hybrid ARQ is better than other two ARQ protocols in throughput. At the same time, it is shown that the way in the adaptive variable-rate transmission, the organization of data structure and the method of coding and decoding in the protocol are correct and advanced. All we have done make a foundation for the implementation of meteor burst communication system in the future.
