The present study applied sociology theory and methods including literature review, questionaire survey, case study and observational research to investigate the cognition to education of rural teenagers in part of Henan Procince in the transtional period of society. We analyzed this issue from following four aspects; (1) the cognition to education, (2) the cognition to positive functions of education and,(3) the motivation of being educated, (4) the desire of being educated.Our study showed that most rural teenagers devoted more attention to personality integrity and social norm learning compared to basic knowledge learning, had strongly utilitarian on purpose of being educated meanwhile stressed importance of personal cultivation, had negative attitude toward positive functions of education and weak desire of being educated. Our study demonstrated that the theory that education is useless had a widespread and profound influence on rural teenagers, and most rural teenagers were weary of studying to some extent.Our study analyzed the factors which affected cognition to education positive functions and being educated desire of rural teenagers from four aspects including individual, domestic environment, school and society environment. Our results showed that the factors which affected cognition to education mainly included the socialization status of rural teenagers, the way of family education, the harmonization between family members, the quality of teachers in rual grassroots, the purpose of school teaching, education resources, the difficulty of job-hunting for college students, the social requirement for rural migrant workers, the rural social security and the individual migrant labor experiences.According to the negative and other influence factors on cognition to education of rural teenagers, we offered following suggestions including bringing in teenagers social workers,training their parents on education methods, more education investment in rural areas,improving competence of rural teachers,accelerating the reform of educational system,improving the rural social security,promoting ideological and ethical progress,and so on.The suggestions will help rural teenagers to form a scientific and reasonable cognition to education.
