The Study Of American Community College Alliances Mode

Community college is a work of great originality of America, which plays an unshakable role in US higher education system, and also exerts great effects on higher education of any other countries. However, American community college was also faced with severe challenges. In order to share recourses to reduce the cost of the school operating and resolve the crisis, American community college has reached a key stage of a large-scaled adjustment and reform from 1980's. And one of the most profound effective revolution measures is the establishment of alliances among schools. The mode of American community college alliances will no doubt produce some enlightenments and references on the development of Chinese community college.American community college alliances are loosely-based organizations. In order to obtain quality education resource, share manpower, material resources and finance, and realize cooperation, the alliances have formed complementary advantages and risk-sharing cooperative competition through kinds of agreements. In the view of American community college alliances, this research distinguishes the alliances into three cooperation model:vertical, horizontal and mixed. There are five parts in the article. The first part is introduction, which expounds the reasons for writing, presents the necessity and significance of alliances and reviews correlative literature information in order to pave roads for in-depth exploration. The second part mainly analyzes the background and motivation of community college alliances. The third part is a review of main model and character of community college alliances. The forth part analyzes features and effects. The last part summarizes successful experience of American community college alliances and expounds enlightenment and referential meaning to the development of Chinese community college.The major originalities of this dissertation are displayed as follows:First, its research angle is new. The research that concerns American community college in recent years is quite much, but very few research papers has addressed the specific problem of American community college alliances. The results of searching CKNI indicate that only 1 paper is described by introductory description and further research is still needed. Besides, the research does not refer to the background and motivation of community college alliances and no, let alone its tremendous potential. So in this paper through the research of background, motivation, model features and effects of American community college alliances, the main successful experiences is analyzed in detail in the hope that it can provide references and directions for Chinese community college.
