| Nowadays, we usually obtain knowledge and information by web reading. Readers can identify main ideas and obtain valuable information is the key to reading activities.Authors of text convey some important ideas and relationships in text through the use of signals.Signals are stylistic writing devices that highlight aspects of semantic content or structural organization in text without communicating additional semantic content. It has been shown to improve recall of relevant content material and to improve performance on problem solving transfer tests, when applied to text.Researchers at home and abroad through the experimental study found that there are different effects of text signals on different cognitive styles of the readers, cognitive styles is indeed an important factor on influence the effects of text signals. However, the mechanism of the effect of text signals is how it works, as well as the signals whether improve different maintaining and understanding on different cognitive fields, whether to support the hypothesis of the quality as so on, is not to make further inquiry and interpretation; even fewer on how to use the text signals to guide the design of web learning.At present, the effect of text signal on the problems of the mechanism and manifestations are still in the controversy. Researchers must use real-time processing technology to make a valid distinction between two kinds of assumptions on the mechanism; in the performance of form, the majority of scholars think that the quantitative hypothesis is more suitable to measure the increase in memory and the qualitative hypothesis is more suitable to measure the migration effect of the text structure. This study suggests that this problem is a very complex issue, it is only related to the reader's reading habits, reading levels, cognitive style, ages and so on, also related to the length,type,style and other relevant forms of organization of a article. Based on this background, this experiment choose two different cognitive styles and research the mechanism and manifestations of the effect of text signals by using eye-tracking technology, discussing the effects of text signal on two different cognitive styles.This study explores the impact of the field of cognitive style on the effects of text signals with two experiments.The first experimental would like to explore the influence of micro-signals (bold, underline and filling red).The second experiment is to divide the two cognitive styles into three groups respectively; every one of the three groups will read the same article of the three versions:a macro-signaled article, micro-signaled article and unsignaled article.This study proposed on the basis of previous studies, examining impact in different fields of cognitive reading macro-signal, micro-signal and non-signal articles, meanwhile, by using eye-tracking devices testing different eye-movement patterns of cognitive styles and further research the mechanism and performance of text signals. Assumptions of this study are as follows:(1)Different cognitive style has different impact on the effect of text signal, field-independent will be benefiting greater than field-dependent. (2) Different cognitive style shows different mechanism when reading articles. The field-independent subjects were free from text signals influence, supporting "common strategy hypothesis",while field-dependence were tested to support "strategy switch hypothesis".(3)The micro-signal is better to promote migration score than macro-signal and non-signal, support "qualitative hypothesis".(4) Text signals won't add total remember information, not support "quantitative hypothesis".After this study we have got the following preliminary conclusions:1,Different cognitive style has different influence on the effect of micro-signal.Field-independent students have little impact but not the field-dependent, they receiving a great impact by the text signals.2,There are different influence on the processing and recall of information between macro-signal and micro-signal.By using macro-signal, readers can construct the topic of articles and structural characterization; by using micro-signal, readers can identify the specific important content to construct characterization of specific information, and guide to memory the specific information.3,Macro-signal and micro-signal will inhibit other subordinate information to memory. Person's cognitive resources are limited, readers spend too much attention on the signaled content resulting in inhibiting the processing and understanding of subordinate information, existing trading effect.4,Micro-signal can promote problem-solving ability. To signal the content of heavy and difficult, readers will give more attention and in-depth processing on these contents, thereby improving the reader's question solving ability effectively. |
