In the distance learning process, the separation of learners and collective, plus the separation of learners and teachers have led to the lack of collective, emotion and communication in the learning, which affects the effectiveness of distance learning. Learning Community is able to compensate for these shortcomings, facilitate the social and practical learning and improve learning efficiency. Therefore, the study of Learning Community in distance education is very valuable. Due to the particularity of distance education, the learning community in distance education is different from other learning communities. First, the study analyzes the characteristics of distance education learning community and its formation process and so on.The open-source platform– ILIAS has been paid much attention in the world. The platform in the online curriculum editing, system management and scorm standards has a great advantage, which enables it to fulfill the needs of distance learning. As a result, the study on the construction of Distance Education Learning Community is conducted based on ILIAS in this thesis,.The purpose of this study is to offer theoretical guidance and operational methods for distance teachers to build learning community in practice. Based on the ILIAS, the paper discusses the strategies for the construction of learning community in the perspectives of the participants, resource management, motivation and evaluation. Although ILIAS has many advantages, there are still some unsatisfactory aspects in the building of distance education learning community. Therefore, in the paper improvements of ILIAS regarding personal portal, collaboration and communication tools, course content editing and sharing are researched. Then some technical difficulties are pointed out -- supporting scorm standard better, exporting the curriculum structure of the courses edited online and the metadata description of objects at all levels.In addition to the research into the construction of distance education learning community from technical and theoretical aspects, how to build learning community on ILIAS is also proposed in this paper., As ILIAS is an open-source platform, our research improves the custom of previous researches, which were based on self-developed platform. The benefits of doing so is making research results adapt to a more widespread extent, because open-source platform can get more of user acceptance in the world. More importantly, users can conduct secondary development according to their own needs, so that a more personalized learning platform can be realized. |
