With the development of social economy and diversified culture, mass media put forwarda number of androgynous idols who are quite different from traditional idols. Adolescents'idolatry has gradually become a social phenomenon worthy of note. However, there havebeen few quantitative researches on how idolatry affects young people's body image andgender role identity. Starting from this hot social issue, this study explores the influence ofidolatry on adolescents'body image and gender role identity, and the structure of thisinfluence.On the basis of collected raw data, three pretests and one re-test, Study 1 & 2 constructedand revised the Influence of Idol's Body Image Questionnaire and the Adolescents'MBSRQ,which had good reliability and validity.Study 3 administered these two measures to 539 high school students, and investigated theinfluence of idolatry on adolescents'body image and gender role identity, and the structure ofthis influence. The results showed that idol's attitude of losing weight directly affectedadolescent body image of overweight, idol's androgynous features of body image directlyaffected adolescent gender evaluation, and the relationship between idol's attitude of loseweight and adolescents'appearance tendency was mediated by adolescents'body image ofoverweight and idol's internal influence.Based on the three studies above, Study 4 administered Junior High School Students'Gender Role Questionnaire to 230 junior high school students who reported that they hadidols, and examined the relationship between idol's androgynous features of body image, alsoadolescents'gender evaluation of body image and their gender role identity. The resultsshowed that the gender role identity of junior high school students was not directly affectedby idol's androgynous features of body image, but was related to their own gender evaluation. |
