| Curriculum Reform is the core issue of the eighth reform of basic education in China's mainland. It is the subject of present stage to fully advance modern quality-oriented education. In June,2001, Ministry of Education promulgated "Essentials of Basic Education Curriculum Reform (Trial)", in which the Ministry claimed to change the condition that the curriculum management is over centralized into a kind of three-level curriculum management carried out by the country, local institute and schools, and strengthen the curriculum's adaptation to local situation, schools and students. So the school-based teaching material development emerges as the time demands. It indicates that primary and middle schools in our country begin to cast off national single curriculum system used in long-term, and that the school and teachers have certain final decision of their curriculum. The country, local institute and school does their duty respectively in the model of three-level curriculum. Management, Therefore, the education pattern which over centralized "an essential a teaching material" becomes disintegrated.Taking the consideration of the school's characteristics, school-based teaching material makes teachers its developing subject. It aims at publicizing students'personality in free development with respect to students'actual situation. The school-based teaching material development is favorable to the development of the students'personality and the teachers'specialization. At the same time it is also favorable to form the school's characteristics. By contrast with the unified demand to the capable people training of nation compiled teaching material, the school-based material is better to meet the diversified demands of the multiple developments of politics, economy and culture in modern society. The school-based teaching material is the strong complement to and makes up the deficiency of the nation compiles teaching material, which is not sufficient to different district education of our country. These two complement each other and mix together.It is not a simple technical operation problem to develop Chinese school-based teaching material, which is theoretically based on various modern education beliefs and ideas. This development closely centers on human-oriented education idea. It respects the students'disparity and diversified needs, and takes the students'development as its fundamental starting point and final settling place. Of course, the theoretical construction of Chinese school-based teaching material development is difficult and uneven. I hope the theoretical ideas in the thesis can guide Chinese school-based teaching material development of primary and middle schools in practice.The thesis contains the following six parts. Part One is introduction, which presents the reason of this research. Based on literature review home and abroad, we can make the study object clear, find out the limitation of the research, fix the research thoughts and methods, and arrange the concepts which will be used in the research, e.g. Chinese teaching material, school-based teaching material, Chinese school-based teaching material and school-based curriculum.Part Two expounds the backgrounds of Chinese school-based teaching material development from international aspect and domestic aspect. The international background takes the constructing condition of Chinese teaching material in America, Britain and Japan—these countries walk into the era of intellectual economy and information—as the examples. The domestic background mainly clarifies the education policy of China's mainland under the basic education reform, the disadvantages of the unified compiled Chinese teaching material on the mainland and the experiences of Hong Kong and Taiwan.Part Three discusses the thinking basis of Chinese school-based teaching material development from the points of educational philosophy, educational culture and educational psychology. In the respect of educational philosophy, the thesis scrutinizes. Chinese school-based teaching material development from the perspectives of education aim, humanistic philosophy, post-modernist philosophy and pragmatic philosophy. In the respect of educational culture, the thesis talks about educational culture and Chinese school-based teaching material development. The psychological basis explains Chinese school-based teaching material development by motivation theory, constructive learning theory and pluralistic intellectual theory.Part Four talks about the basic ideas and values of Chinese school-based teaching material development, including two aspects:ideas and values.Part Five discusses the basic principles of Chinese school-based teaching material development from the views of popularity principle and peculiarity principle. The relationship of them is universal and special.Part Six proposes challenges and suggestions of Chinese school-based teaching material development. This part finds out the shortcomings of the theoretical preparation with school-based teaching material development under the condition of our basic education reform and the challenges brought by reality. Meanwhile it provides four suggestions to them. |
