At Olympic Science Conference 2008, a special report entitled "A Survey of Health and Life Behaviors of College Students in China" attracted worldwide attention among educationists. It revealed that 65.68% of Chinese students "feel lack of sports",7.57% of them do not take breakfast and 15.44% do not know the importance of a balanced diet. Quiet a number of students stay up very late into night playing online games, watching TV and oversleep until the time for class. They tend to work overtime just before exams, and once exams are over, they spend whole night at cybercafes, KTV, etc. Such unhealthy behaviors result from their lack of health knowledge and healthy habit.College stage is a critical period for students to develop their physical and mental health. If we can conduct all-round health education for them, so as to enable them to understand and cope with health problems in a scientific approach and help them to establish a scientific health outlook and give up unhealthy life style, and to learn to protect themselves and adapt themselves, then it would be very beneficial. However, in our practical work of health education and service, there are some weak links, such as insufficient knowledge of modern health education conception; lack of systematic scientific education means; rather weak faculty force in colleges; monotonous education forms and backward facilities. All these led to the fact that students are not interested in health education and not self-motivated.According to a survey by Sha Haiyan, only 10% of students in universities in China attend the courses of teaching plan, and 56% of them have not attended any kind of health education (including public elective courses or weekend lectures. The author investigated the situation of health elective courses attendance provided by the Academic Section of one of universities in Shanghai:there were 12099 undergraduates in this university in 2007 and only 119 attended elective courses. In 2008, there were 12161 undergraduates and still 119 attended, with an attendance rate of less than 1%.Effective school health program can also improve the state education and health and is the most cost-effective investment. Foreign scholars hold that high-quality and diversified health education can achieve higher economic benefits. Each US dollar spent for health education can save 13-14 US dollars for the society. In order to attract students to attend health education lessons and thus reduce health risks for students and improve their health, the author conducted this study on optimized mode for health education of students in some colleges and departments in 2009.The purpose:to find out health problems and risks of students, to evaluate the resources and select the optimized education field. Using the education mode that is readily accepted by students and blending health promotion into health education. It is for intervention group to carry out optimized education mode, to assess the effect and the acceptance of the mode by students, so as to find the suitable and optimized mode. Thought project execution, to promote their knowledge expansion, establish health concept and health behaviors; thus, promoting the growth of school health policy, organization and experience. The study method:to consult and read related literature extensively, to fully understand and compare various health education modes and to discuss theoretically the optimized mode for health education of students. It is to organize interviews and group discussions and probe into the main health problems, education content and system, expected targets, practice activities and evaluation system. Combined with the results of "Health Conditions of College Students and Relevant Factor Investigation", it is to construct the health education content system of this school and education behavior style. It is then to select randomly 2 specialized colleges for experiment, and select 259 students from Ocean Science College as experiment group to conduct optimized mode and carry out series health education; select 325 students from Aqua-life Science College as control group to carry out conventional health education for contrast and analysis study. Evaluation indexes employ the attendance rate of two groups, passing rate of basic health knowledge, contrast of health concept of experiment group before and after the experiment, and the results of satisfaction tests.Main Results:1.500 questionnaires "Health Conditions of College Students and Relevant Factor Investigation" were distributed.494 valid copies (247 for boys and 247 for girls) of answers were recovered, with a valid rate of 98.8%.5 dimensions were designed in the questionnaire. Score was set at 1 point,2 points,3 points and 4 points. It was found that the two fields that need intervention most were sub-health and lack of basic health knowledge. Boys scored 2.944 and 2.956 respectively in two dimensions while girls scored 2.879 and 2.898. results of research showed that the basic health knowledge that students expect to obtain most were prevention and cure of common diseases (85%), common first-aid methods (76%), food health and nutrition (67%), physiology (60%), psychology (55%), sex physiology and venereal disease and AIDS prevention (50%), common medicine (35%).2. Participation of Health Education ActivitiesIn the series health education activities, the participation rate of convention group was 61.0% whereas that of control group was 7.2%. By comparison, the participation rate of experiment group is apparently higher than that of control group. The difference has statistical sense (X2=778.2936, P=0.000).3. Mastery of Health KnowledgeWritten tests were held on the content and related knowledge of health promotion for experiment group and control group respectively and the passing rates were compared. Before the implementation of health education activities, the mastery of basic health knowledge of two groups has no significant difference (X2=0.0109, P=0.917). After the implementation, the mastery of two groups both rose, yet the experiment group rose more significantly. The difference has significant statistical sense (X2=50.2361, P=0.000).4. The Contrastive Study of Health Concept of Experiment GroupAfter the implementation of health education activities, students' health concept further improved and some concepts have significant differences, such as: "Health education and good life style can promote personal success "(X2=8.2350, P=0.004) "; College students belong to high-occurring group of sub-health " (X2=9.5315, P=0.002) "; When Sub-health exists, I will adopt active measures to intervene and treat it " (X2=102.3751, P=0.000).5. Satisfaction Degree Test for the Optimized Mode of Health EducationIn the series of health education activities,160 participants were randomly sampled to be tested with uniform "Satisfaction Degree Test Form". This test adopts 5-level scoring system. Each test item is divided into five levels, namely, "satisfied, relatively satisfied, general, dissatisfied, and very much dissatisfied, " with 25 points reduction in turn, i. e. satisfied=100 points, relatively satisfied=75 points, general=50 points, dissatisfied=25 points and very much dissatisfied=0 point. The number of people who chose each level was multiplied by the points of corresponding level and then to be added together, and to be divided by the total number of participants, thus we obtain satisfaction degree index, i.e., satisfaction degree= (100*satisfied number +75*relatively satisfied number……0*very much dissatisfied number)/the total number of participants. The result of this satisfaction degree test was 84.7.Conclusion:Optimized health education for colleges and universities must link with medical science, pedagogy, communication science and other disciplines, to establish an optimized mode for health education with complete content, rational structure, and scientific and practical characteristics. This optimized mode has made exploration of above-mentioned aspects and implemented the procedures of design, execution and evaluation which were targeted to specific groups, and significantly improved the effects of health education. It is sincerely expected that the theoretical discussion and practical trials of this optimized mode for health education could provide some revelation for health education reform in colleges and universities.
