Civic education had its prosperous period and reached its peak in Republic of China, which is pushed by government and academic society. Both theory and practice of civic education was found well developed. This dissertation focuses on the content and practice of civic curriculum and its function to enlighten, which is researched depending on the data from Republic of China.There are five chapters in the dissertation:Chapter 1:As an introduction, the value of the studies is illuminated firstly, and the object and methods of the studies are clarified. Most important is the author makes a detailed overview about related researches in recent years.Chapter 2:The author traces the source of citizenship and civic education in western history and gives an introduction of citizenship and civic education in early Republic of China.Chapter 3:The content of civic curriculum in early Republic of China is divided to several leading aspects such as politics, economy, and ethics.The studies depend on plenty of books and journals from Republic of China.Chapter 4:The point of this part is about the situation of practice. There are some paths to learn more about the practice such as environment and equipment needed, teaching methods, and evaluation for students. Additionally, one example of some school is cited.Chapter 5:The author reflects on the civic education of Republic of China including analyzing the reason of its appearance, concluding its traits, and indicating the importance of enlightenment for the society of The People's Republic of China.The innovation of this dissertation chiefly involves studying in internal curriculum, classifying different dimensions, and applying typical practice case of civic education of Republic of China.
