The Investigation Of The Status On The Teaching Of Biological Exploring Experiments In Ordinary Junior High Schools In Hohhot

The exploratory experiment of biology in middle school takes an important role in the New Course Reform, and is also the hot spot of research in recent years. Most research focus on biological experiments to explore the teaching mode and teaching strategies, but the status of implementation of various parts of the research less. To find out the status and problems on the teaching of biological exploring experiments in junior high school, the investigation was made in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia.The study investigated 48 biological teachers and 1040 students from 8 ordinary middle schools in Hohhot. The results showed that only 22.9% of teachers thought that experimental materials and instruments can satisfy the needs of the exploratory experiment. The laboratories of 75% middle schools are not open to students. 40% of the teachers agree to change the testing to experiment of biology into the exploratory experiment. Only 10.4% of the teachers approve the students' participation in teaching evaluation. Among the 15 experiments in the study, the enforcement of only 6 exceed 50%;The students'capability of raising questions in the exploratory experiment takes up less than 1/3. These results indicateds that the problems in the enforcement of exploratory experiment of biology in middle schools are as follows: (1) Obsolete experiment equipments, not enough class hours and few laboratories open to students. (2) The low level of the quality of teaching staff. (3) The less strong teaching concept of the adoption of exploratory experiment of biology. (4) The weak base of students' learning and the needs of alteration of learning methods. (5) The backward evaluations. Therefore, the thesis suggests the teachers, students, schools and some other departments take appropriate measures to change the situation.The results contribute the enforcement of exploratory experiment of biology in Hohhot, and also offer some useful reference for the enforcement of the exploratory experiment of biology in the other areas.
