Pygmalion effect, or Robert Rosenthal effect, was suggested and proved by famous Amercan psychologist Robert Rosenthal and Jakobson on teaching. In fact, Robert Rosenthal effect is a psychological suggestion. People can accept the influence and suggestion given by the people whom very much they admire, like, believe and respect. Rosenthal thought that the love, care, and expectation shown by the teachers can have a good effect on the teaching. When the teacher knows that the students who she or he is teaching have the potential abilities, she or he will increase the expectation of the students. Further more, she or he will pay more attention to them and encourage them whenever necessary. Meanwhile, the encouragement by the teacher will increase the students'confidence and desire to knowledge acquisition. They will be eager to make great progress. On the other hand, if the students who are poor in learning and lack confidence and interest to learning, they'll have difficulties to improve learning. If only teachers are enthusiastic in transfering the information and teaching while the students don't have the inherent need and expectation to acquire the knowledge on their own, it is certainly quite natural that the teachers will lose the confidence in teaching and thus vise versa. If we can make good use of the "Rosenthal effect " to conduct the teaching, it will improve teaching greatly. Teacher should give more hope and confidence to the students and inspire learner's motivation. Students must form the internal motivation to improve the desire for learning.
