The United States began making the first TV series in the 1940s.In the 60 years, American TV series has a great deal of development, and it has become an extremely important component of American entertainment industry. In recent years, with the popularity of computers and the Internet in Chinese families, the Internet becomes a major way in which the American TV series spread in China, many American TV series became popular quickly, more and more people become the fans.The audience of the American TV series from China and the United States live in two countries, they have different social backgrounds and cultural backgrounds. Is there any difference in their acceptance of American TV series? This paper is a qualitative investigation of the issue. In this paper, I use the method of deep interview to interview four Chinese graduate students and four American college students. And through the interviews, we want to find some differences in accepting the American TV series between Chinese and American college students, such as the channel of watching, the pattern of interpretation and the selection criteria. After that I analyze and explain the reasons for the differences.As a result, we can see some differences in accepting the American TV series between Chinese and American college students. First, American college students always watching the American TV series on TV and sometimes on the internet, but most Chinese college students watch the American TV series only on the internet. Second, in the explanation pattern, Chinese students prefer to make the reference explanation but American students can get more critical points. Third, in the selection criteria, they do not have so many differences, but the American college students prefer to choose the TV series which are more close to their real life. In this paper, we do not only study the differences in accepting the American TV series between Chinese and American college students, but also analyze the reasons.
