More and more young people get higher education after it has been changed from elite education to mass education in China. However, more and more college graduates face the risk of unemployment which has increasingly become an emergency with the situation of employment being serious as China's economy entering into a crucial stage of transition. At the same time, in recent years, new urban labor employment, re-employment of laid-off workers, and the transfer of rural surplus labor caused over-supply of urban labor market tension, making more and more college graduates in an intense employment environment. After the reformation of higher education management system in the year of 2000, the management of petroleum universities was transferred to the education ministry or local institutions. As a result, both the affiliation and the orientation changed, which leaded to the serious employment situation and related new problems. The orientation of the colleges impacts the quality of training the students. The model of training professionals by the long-term of running industry has been broken, yet the new specialists adapting the social and economic development haven't formed in time, and employment market shrunk. Thus the local employment market system has not yet formed, and there are difficulties of employment for graduates.Taking China University of Petroleum (Beijing), China University of Petroleum (East China), Northeast Petroleum University, Southwest Petroleum University, Xi'an Shiyou University and Yangtze University as empirical research objects, this article makes an analysis of the status quo of college graduates employment in petroleum universities and puts forward some correspondent countermeasures in order to do a good job for college graduates employment. It is of utmost practical significance to promote students'personal growth, instruct them to change their notions of employment, make effective distribution of human resources, and build perfect job markets for graduates. The feedback from employment market can provide the theory basis for new modes and mechanism of fostering talented people in petroleum universities.This thesis mainly consists of four parts. The first part is problem rising. It describes the topic goal and the significance of this paper, puts forward the target of the study, and offers new methods and theoretical framework. Secondly, the study systematically analyzes the state of employment of college graduates in petroleum universities in recent years on the basis of the current situation of petroleum universities education, from the perspectives of college graduates employment rate, employment areas, career directions and so on, and summarizes four distinctive features of college graduates employment in petroleum universities. Thirdly, to start with the analysis of the internal and external employment environment of college graduates in petroleum universities, the paper elaborates five main factors influencing postgraduate employment:the social environment, the employment market for graduates, the universities, the units of choose and employ persons, and the graduates themselves. Finally, it brings up several effective measures for college graduates in petroleum universities. First, the function of petroleum universities should be brought into fullest play that having a reasonable orientation and optimizing talent cultivation mode in order to strengthen the competitiveness of graduates. Then, make the construction of perfect job markets for graduates. Above all, graduates should make ongoing self-adjustment to feed social needs and enhance their core competitiveness.
