| Textbooks, as the learning resources and tools to students, are fundamental to teaching. With the further development of curriculum reform, the National Educational Committee proposes the policy of"one syllabus with various textbooks". Faced with different textbooks, it's essential for us teachers to analyze and evaluate these textbooks scientifically and appropriately in order to make reasonable decisions in the selection of them. This research chooses two series of textbooks,"Advance with English"and"Senior English for China"for this comparative study with the purpose to demonstrate the similarities and differences between the two. Combining static analysis with dynamic analysis, the paper employs documentary, comparative and interviewing approaches to obtain analytical data. Static analysis focuses on guiding theories, structures, topics of discourses, knowledge of language including vocabulary and grammar, and the training of linguistic skills in terms of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Dynamic analysis is made on the basis of the investigation about the series of textbooks of"Advance with English"in Zhangjiagang, in order to gather the first-hand information about the feedback of the textbook. The research attempts to demonstrate advantages and disadvantages of both sets of textbooks to offer teachers a better understanding of them. The paper concludes with some suggestions on the compilation and teaching of the books with the hope of making English teaching and learning more effectively. |
