During the time of Anti-Japanese War, the aggression of Japanese Imperialism brought great disasters to China. In the very moment of survive or perish of the country, it was urgent to protect and nurture the children in war areas for the country's sake. The "National Association for Regugee Children" thus came into being. It was set up on the 10th March in 1938 in Wuhan, yet the head quarter moved to Chongqing in October due to the fall of Wuhan city.Through the eight-year, the National Association for Regugee Children has set up 22 branches and 54 nursery schools for children all over the country which protected and took care of about 30 thousand children in war areas. This thesis makes a survey of the undertaking of protecting and nurturing children in war areas, with Sichuan and Chongqing as the areas for inspection, providing the full view of the undertaking of child care in Sichuan and Chongqing. Based on the survey, the author also analyzes the situation and draw conclusions.The thesis consists of four chapters:the first chapter illustrates the process of development of the National Association for Regugee Children, which includes the establishment and development in Chongqing; Chapter 2, as the main part of this thesis, explains in details the overall working situation of the National Association for Regugee Children, mainly from the perspectives of structure of the organization, operation system, source of funds and education situation; Chapter 3 dwells on the education situation of the nursery schools in Sichuan and Chongqing areas during the wartime, especially on the policies of education, the content of education, and education achievements. In Chapter 4, the author, based on analysis and summary of the development of the National Association for Regugee Children, offers personal views on its disadvantages as well as the historical and practical significance.
