Intellectualization has become the development trend of the current information society. As an important branch of intellectualization, expert system has been extensively used in many fields. The most remarkable characteristic of expert system is that it can not only help people process information but also give explanations and reasons to the processing mode. At the same time, collaborative learning is an effective learning mode. The research and application are prevailing over the field of educational technology, but the collaborative group support have been neglected, as we well known, how to group is the core of collaborative learning, The different forms of group formation produce different group structure, which will affect the quality of the groups.On analyzing the current situation and the relevant Collaborative Learning theory, this thesis identifies the correlative factors that has an influence on Collaborative Learning and put forward the learners' critical features ,which is learning style, academic achievement and collaborative ability. According these factors, the technique of Visual Prolog was used and the expert system was designed and implemented.The expert system not only achieved multiple-grouping mode, but also help the teacher identifies the core members of a group. In the process of grouping, the teacher could choose either the homogeneous grouping or the heterogeneous grouping, in accordance with different subjects. Then the teacher could determine the number of students in each cooperate group according to different learning task. In the light of his teaching experience, the teacher could also make adjustment to the index weighting of each factor in the process of heterogeneous grouping, so as to better group the students. After grouping, the expert system will provide feedback to the teacher about the students not within a group, so teacher can make further arrangement. Besides, the system can offer proper help if teacher want to learn more knowledge about grouping. Therefore, we can say the system has the characteristic of expert system and intellectualization.The paper integrates expert system and grouping for the first time, and presents the environment of automatic grouping, it will become an effective tool for teaching and scientific research. In addition, this system is one of the examples that positively respond to and carry out the curriculum reform policy.
