The implementation of the school-based curriculum, which is of great significance, is to carry out all-sided the nation's policy, improve education and the learners'quality. It changes the compulsory course's unique and leading position in middle school education, making it possible for schools to develop their own features, students to develop their creativity, and teachers to develop their multi-abilities. School-based Curriculum Development(SBCD), essentially speaking, is developed according to schools'own features and cultures. Therefore, in SBCD, there're no unified models, that is to say, the school-based curriculum should not be developed in a certain unchanging model. Schools and teachers should play the leading part in SBCD. They are also the participants and contributors. On the other hand, SBCD is a complicated process which includes a series of problems, such as the cognizance of schools'features, the development of the teaching material of a certain curriculum, the teachers'training and the assessment in the teaching process. All these problems indicate that we now still stay in the primary period of SBCD which means we should put much enthusiasm and passion in this reform and make more attempts. There are so many puzzles and we are not likely to solve them all at once. So I choose one of them and take English curriculum as the example. Just as I have said above, there are no unified models in SBCD. But what if we unify our knowledge and practice in our English school-based curriculum? This dissertation includes four parts. The first part elaborates the basic concept of the school-based curriculum and SBCD and the thought of"unification of knowledge and practice". The second part is an introduction of the background of the English school-based curriculum development in our school. The third part analyzes the problems which exist in the English school-based curriculum development and exploit in our school. These problems include teachers'lack of subjective mastership, lack of the ability of developing and exploiting the English school-based curriculum, lack of the consciousness of SBCD and cooperative ability, and students'lack of subjective state, lack of active participation and lack of confidence. Through the analysis on the result of sampling survey of the English school-based curriculum development and exploit in our school and through questionnaire investigation and interview on teachers and students, I further affirm the existence of these problems occurring in the process of teachers'and students'participating in our school's English school-based curriculum. To these problems, I put forward the thought of"unification of knowledge and practice", to help improve the English school-based curriculum development and exploit. We should combine curriculum resources and human resources which should include teachers and students, combine what we know and what we do so that we can stimulate teachers and students sense of self-worth, arouse their enthusiasm and confidence to achieve better teaching result of our school's English school-based curriculum.
