| Textbooks, as students' learning resources and tools, are fountain to attain teaching objectives. With the reform in curriculum putting into practice, the Educational Authorities will gradually carry out the policy to diversity versions in textbooks under the guidance of National Curriculum Standards, which will improve the adaptation of textbooks to suit the needs of schools and students. Facing the diversification in textbooks, what should teachers do to evaluate the quality of textbooks, to identify the strengths and weakness of textbooks and then make a sensible decision?Nowadays most teachers only use textbooks to teach, see textbook as its final teaching objectives. But it is gradually important for teachers to know how to analyze and evaluate the curriculum and know how to develop and wisely use textbooks.The new Senior English for China (Revised SEFC) and Oxford English textbook are two successful textbooks used for senior school English teaching. This paper aims at comparing these two textbooks and draws some useful conclusions from the research.This paper consists of five parts. The first part serves as the introduction, which shows the significance of the study. The second part describes the history of senior English textbook development. Chapter Three involves the overall framework of Oxford English and SEFC textbook primarily from the macro level. Chapter Four is concerned with, from the perspective of micro, differences on language information, language skills, materials, and teachers of Oxford English and SEFC textbook. Chapter Five discusses the findings and concludes the whole thesis. It gives a summary and puts forward some pedagogical implications and suggestions for teachers. |
