Since the 1960s, the issue of the professional development of teachers has become the subject of widespread concerns in research on educational theory and of primary and secondary school teachers. However, the existing literature researches show that related research has overlooked the role of initiative as the main body in the process of teachers' development. Differences in individual teachers and period of professional development determine that the trend of teachers' professional development is the initiative professional development. Initiative professional development of teacher mainly reflected in the self-awareness and initiative ability. Among them, the self-awareness of teachers in the professional development has a strong dynamic characteristics, which is a key factor to determine teachers to continue professional development.In order to explore the laws of the initiative professional development of teachers, the study uses the combining method of theoretical research and empirical analysis, from the perspective of consciousness, this article analyzes teachers' development and the process of initiative professional development. It also analyzes the impacts of needs, professional ideals and beliefs, professional self-awareness, self-efficacy and external factors on the development of initiative professional development. At the same time, I have selected 6 schools' teachers in shanghai as target of interviews and questionnaire survey, and carried out the corresponding statistical analysis. Study shows that the vast majority of teachers have the sense of initiative professional development, but the lack of independent development actors; school types, Teachers in core subjects and non-core subjects, academic qualification, job title, a certain degree of the correlation between seniority and initiative professional development of teachers, teacher capability, professional self-awareness, career identity, school culture, the effect of curriculum reform which is the important factors of influencing the initiative professional development of teachers. Finally, this article puts forward some strategies about training teachers' professional awareness.This study considers that the initiative professional development of teachers is not only the objective requirement of life-long education and deep-seated reform, but also the inevitable result of teachers' self-improvement. Although the initiative professional development of teachers affected by many factors, during the process of teachers' initiative professional development. Awareness of professional development is a key factor in determining whether the teachers can develop initiatively, the extent and level of professional development. The cultivation of teachers' initiative awareness need to consider and balance the interaction between the internal and external factors. On one hand, we need to cultivate a sound personality of teachers; on the other hand, we devote ourselves to help teachers do a good specific teaching job and promote their self-efficacy.
