With the emergence of knowledge-based economy and the development of popularization of higher education, the problems of teaching quality in college have become an increasing concern for all sectors of the community. The quality of the classroom teaching is an important performance for the quality of higher education, and the choice and use of teaching method have a critical impact in the quality of classroom teaching. Presently, the scholars in China have made many areas of research on the teaching method of faculty from different perspectives, and the theoretical results related research about teaching are rich. However, the relevant empirical study also lacks. Therefore, the empirical analysis for the teaching methods innovation of faculty in China has an important practical significance.Compare to the general teaching methods, the one of college has distinct subject characteristics and the nature of research methods. This paper investigates the need and possibilities of teaching methods innovation from the perspective of students and faculty.The analysis found that, the influencing factors for the need and possibilities of teaching methods innovation includes faculty lacking the intensity of capacity for students, the imperfect higher education management, faculty having subjective initiative. The innovative way of teaching methods in college includes the following aspects: enhancing the overall quality of faculty in China, establishing an example for faculty setting up a scientific and rational management for teaching, and adopting the modern teaching technology. In order to ensure the smooth progress for teaching methods innovation in college, this paper puts forward some measures to protect the teaching methods innovation in college.
