An Study Into The Idolatry For Sports Stars Among College Students In The City Of Nanchang

With more and more emphasis is put on the human development to construct a harmonious society,it becomes worthwhile to study the current social phenomenon——idolatry for sports stars among college students.The author of this thesis carried out a survey in five universities,referring to the literatures available,interviewing students,distributing questionnaires.With a thorough analysis on the data obtained,the author concludes as following:1.25.5%college students worship sports stars,among whom 30.2%male students and 15.3%female.36.2%worshipers come from city,10.8%from rural.2.College students mainly obtain the information of sports stars from TV rather from newspapers or magazines.They watch their icons train or compete on TV and comment on the net.3.Male star athletes are more likely than female athletes to become college students' icons.4.41%star worshipers are more concerned with the athletic information,and 35%with non-athletic information and 23.6%with all about their icons.5.The admired sports stars mainly come from track and field,then football, basketball,volleyball and diving in a declining order. 6.The reasons for idol worship include personal value,personality, appearances,value of the event and social value of the sports stars.7.The effects of the star athletes have upon the college students include inspirations,mood adjustment,sports sense and character imitation.8.The mental resources of idol worship are self-recognition,sense of compensation,fashion and the types of idol worship are identification and attachment.9.The ways of idolatry includes open-typed and close-typed behavior patterns. Those who suffer the most greatly from idolatry belong to the open-typed pattern and accordingly suffer greatly from the feeling of attachment.10.The thesis holds that sports stars should set good examples for the young thus to develop an icon-education model.
