The paper was targeted for the attempt to reform Gezhi College hosted by Wang Tao, mainly used the method of documents and analyzed the influence of the background and personal factors on educational reform of Gezhi College hosted by Wang Tao on the basis of a wide range of information-gathering and synthesis of previous studies. The attempt to reform Gezhi College hosted by Wang Tao was described systematically in the following four parts: No.1, Criticizing traditional educational purposes and determining the purpose of Gezhi College; No.2,A djusting teaching content and reconstructing knowledge systems; No.3,Cultivating a new teaching force and adopting advanced teaching forms and methods; No.4, Creating new academic assessment system. The main points are as follows:Wang Tao put forward the view of the new type of talents. He pointed out that new talents should be proficient in Western sciences and the current affairs. They should be able to apply what they have learned and accommodate different cultures. All of them pointed out the way forward to that modern education cultivated the new type of talents.Wang Tao advocates the study of Western natural science and pays greater attention to the study of Western human sciences. At that time he broke the thinking pattern of the"Chinese body and western use"and created a precedent for the study of Western Human Sciences in the College.Wang Tao introduced foreign teachers in order to enhance the deeper comprehension and grasp of Western sciences. At the same time, he employed actively well-known Chinese scholars to work as teachers in order to solve the negative impact of dependence on foreign teachers. He explored a road of Chinese-foreign cooperative running school.Wang Tao advocated the examination-oriented system and emphasized self-study and open teaching, which not only could be accepted easily by the students but also provided a good platform for students to display themselves.
